Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility is a home for up to 29 elders for whom their psychiatric history and symptoms have prevented their former placements from having a successful outcome. Many are placed in this facility through commitment orders from the local courts. Their coming to live with us may not have started on a very positive note. Yet, the elders of Syringa have been very responsive living life in the Eden setting. In some cases it is one of the first times that they have had the opportunity to experience a "Life Worth Living." What a joy it is to witness a lifelong schitzophrenic hold a cat or a plant and get beyond the symptoms of the disease to deal with the reality of the moment. That happens many times everyday at Syringa precisely because we were all meant to "Live in a Garden."
