Webinar Education : Live Events PDF Print E-mail

The Eden Alternative is committed to helping people maximize their educational opportunities.  A webinar (short for Web-based seminar) is a convenient, user-friendly seminar format available over the internet that delivers audio/visual content directly to your desk.

The Eden Alternative offers webinars on a variety of subjects that will assist you in  bringing about necessary changes at an affordable cost.  Organizations are constantly challenged with providing education on person-directed care concepts and culture change issues that everyone can easily access.  Webinars provide you a learning opportunity that brings together Elders and their care partners -- including family members, care partners who work in your organization, volunteers, and others - affordably and effectively.  We offer one-hour, interactive feature webinars each month that address an array of topics. Our webinar offerings include a feature webinar series that is offered for a fee, as well as several free webinar topics that appeal to a variety of audiences.  To see a list of upcoming free webinars, scroll past the Feature Webinars listed first below.

Part 1 ~ Ending Ageism                    Monday, February 13, 2012, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET
In our society, aging has been cast as the road to decline and deterioration with little to offer the community at large.  Mother Theresa once said, “When we judge someone, we have less time to love them.”  Ageist attitudes are so enmeshed in our society that even Elders can become prejudiced against themselves and what they have to offer their communities. These deeply ingrained negative messages about aging have the power to color our perceptions of each other as individuals, our relationships, and ultimately, the giving and receiving of care.  As agents of change, we can question how each of us has been affected by systemic ageism and begin to unravel its harmful effects on the culture of care and the creation of a life worth living.  Click here to register!

Webinar Objectives:
•    Define ageism and distinguish it from person-directed perspectives
•    Name two ways that ageism contributes to loneliness, helplessness, and boredom
•    List two examples of the impact of ageism on the quality of care

Part 2 ~ Reclaiming Elderhood                Monday, April 2, 2012, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET
Our popular culture offers little that can lead us toward a deep understanding of Elders and Elderhood.  Instead, we are tutored day and night in the virtues of youthfulness.  By acknowledging Elderhood as a unique stage of life marked by continued growth and development, we harness the gifts of wisdom that only a life long-lived can provide. This exciting new paradigm reclaims a powerful and much-needed societal role for all Elders, regardless of their abilities, while redefining what it means for people of all ages to be true partners in care.  Click here to register!

Webinar Objectives:
•    List and define the Five Stages of the human development cycle
•    Name three roles that define the new Elderhood and their value in care relationships
•    Identify two ways that the concept of Elderhood impacts the quality of care

Part 3 ~ Creating Convivium                Monday, June 18, 2012, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET

Food nourishes us, body and soul.  Breaking bread together embodies powerful symbols of well-being and acceptance and builds relationships between people of all ages.  As a practice, convivium involves a meaningful experience of mealtime that relies on engaging all of the senses; the use of fresh, local ingredients; good conversation; and cultivating deep connections between all involved.  Learn how this simple, yet frequently overlooked, concept can enrich the art of creating caring communities in both home-based and long-term care environments.  Click here to register!

Webinar Objectives:
•    List three key qualities of convivium
•    Identify two ways that convivium helps to build relationships at a fundamental level
•    Name three implications for enhancing the quality of care through the practice of convivium

CEU’s for all three webinars available through NAB pending approval.
