I hope you all have had a chance to review your conference brochure on the Building Bridges track.  This is new to our conference and possibly to the whole field of aging.  Below is an update of some changes (for the benefit of the participants) which you will want to know, just in case you might have a young person who would like to come and be involved.  See you soon!
Steve

The Great Convergence has begun!

Okay the race is on!  We have some healthy competition going on between some states.    Michigan (27) and New York (23) are neck and neck with the most coming and will win the WTC award for (state, country, province) most in attendance.  Who will win?  Will there be an upset?  Of course, I’m disqualifying Ohio because they are at 63 and climbing.

You better watch out NY and MI, Pennsylvania is closing in with 13 registered just this week and more to come I hear.  Our International (Japan, UK, Australia, Neuss, Canada) have registered 13 also.

Little but mighty Iowa has registered 9 also—good job Iowa associates!  Colorado and Nebraska are neck and neck at 8 each and I know Dorene hasn’t registered her gang yet!  Come on kiddo, let’s get moving!!! —get those registrations in.

Little Rhode Island has made their mark, but the rest of the colony states, are quite quiet... hmmmm?

A lot of the mid-western states are registering in small numbers, so get out there and talk it up!

Tennessee and West Virginia, you need to holler over at Kentucky and down at Georgia, NC, SC, and Florida, we haven’t heard anything from them…. are their phone lines still up and working?

West coast has made an awakening, but the mighty California must be on vacation, none registered.  Why even Idaho, Washington, and Oregon are on the books, as is the Deep South with Texas, Alabama and Mississippi.

Okay Illinois and North Dakota, you need to nudge your northern and eastern borders, we haven’t heard anything from Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Indiana.

YES the GREAT CONVERGENCE has begun!!!!  All roads lead to Ohio…let’s make this the best conference ever!  P.S.  Bring your story books so we can see and hear your stories of your journey!  If you haven’t contacted Debbie or Nancy yet about reserving a table for display, please do so by contacting them at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

On another note, try to bring your checkbook or cash if you want to purchase anything from the Eden bookstore.  We are working on credit cards, but, may not be able to do it.  We will have three book signings from the authors who will be present (Dr. Thomas, Nancy Fox, and Beth Baker).

Well, that's enough for now, we will be waiting to greet you and have our massage therapist on stand by to get the kinks out from your travel, as well as, the Labyrinth ready for a meditative walk.

See you soon!

Steve

Conference is nearing--don't forget to register for early bird discounts!

Things are well underway for what looks to be a top notched conference-packed four days in Columbus, Ohio.  Why…. we’ve even ordered beautiful weather for you with everything budding and blooming.

 Networking opportunities abound!

The Tuesday Great Convergence will be an emotional uplifting of spirit for those in attendance as we unite together in our common causes.  Contact Steve LeMoine at ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or Ruth Meek at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to be a representative in the march for your country, state or province.   That evening we will hear a virtuoso violinist, who has played at Carnegie Hall, during our reception to get acquainted with each other. For those of you who we can’t sate your appetite at the reception, buses will be waiting to wisk you away to the short north, listed as one of America’s top ten places for artists and “artsy” people.  The restaurants are plentiful and serve a large variety of ethnic cuisine.  Did I say how good the food is—absolutely top notch!!

During the day, stop by the Journey/Story room (located in the Fairfield room) to view all the homes displaying scrapbooks and meet new friends…then stop in the Convivuum café for some refreshment.  Bring your books and stories.  If you plan to display, contact Debbie Sprinkle at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to reserve space for you in the Journey room.

Food and Entertainment

All-inclusive, your registration cost (which is lower until May 2, 2008) has all your breakfast and lunches, with Wednesday night’s dinner theater and dance in the fee.  I just have to say, a few of us attended the Howling at the moon theater and found ourselves amazed and laughing through the entire presentation.

Some of the food will take you around the world from gourmet pizza, to Mediterranean pitas, to chipotle chicken, to the American favorite shaved prime rib.  Of course the reception will have such things as pear and brie in Phyllo with raspberry coulis.  Of course for the junkies we will have pretzels, chips, and peanuts available for afternoon snacks.  You won’t go away hungry!  Did I mention this is all included in the registration fee?

Speakers

Wow!  The brochure says it all!  My wife and I went out and rented Richard Pimentel’s DVD, “The Music Within,” and we were moved by the portrayal of this amazing individual, largely responsible for the American with Disabilities Act.

The researchers presenting their findings on culture change should be interesting to hear.  The gathering of so many culture change pioneers and experts in one place, will be a privilege to network with.

So what are you waiting for?  COME TO COLUMBUS!  Get registered and start packing, I can't wait to see you!

CALLING ALL Conference Attendees!!!

During our time together, we will be using “breakout” rooms for various sessions during the conference.  The majority of the rooms will have a maximum of 10 large tables that will seat 10 people per table.  There are a couple of rooms that seat smaller groups.

These rooms need your help!

Each of these breakout sessions will need to be decorated,  (centerpieces for the tables, wall adornments, and items for giveaways for each person attending that session).   This is the perfect opportunity to showcase your country, community and/or Elders.  Please get with others in your region, state, country, or even company and decide if you would like to adopt a room for the conference.  The opportunities are endless!

If you would like to participate, but can’t carry all of your items with you, we have come up with several different options that we would be happy to discuss.  Please contact Ruth Meek, Decoration Committee Co-Chair at 614-228-8888 ext 322 or email me at:  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  I look forward to hearing from you!  See you in Columbus!!!!

I hope this update finds everyone preparing for the fast approaching conference.  The committee has done a stellar job in planning and preparation for the conference and they are to be commended.

The education committee has aligned all the speakers (quite an impressive list of speakers and topics) for all sessions.  The budget has been prepared for the conference and conference rates have been established.  The first draft of the pre-conference brochure is in review now and was projected for a March 1st deadline to be sent out to participants.  I anticipate at this writing, it will be sent out in January yet (at least via email).  The pre-conference brochure will have all the rates in it.  NOTE:  There are specific rates for attending by day, full conference, and rates for Registered homes, and a super saver rate for those sending a lot of people.

Rooms can be booked now at the Hyatt Regency Columbus, 350 North High Street, Columbus, OH  43215, 614-463-1234.  Room rates are as follows:  Single Occupancy $145.00, Double Occupancy $150.00, Triple Occupancy $160.00, and Quadruple Occupancy $170.00.  Suite rates are available upon request through the Hyatt.  Check in time is 3 p.m. and checkout time is 12 p.m., so plan accordingly.

Please check with your local mentors to find out who will be attending from your State, Province, or Country, as we will be asking participants to represent their area in the opening night ceremonies.  More on this to follow in another update.

Until later,

Steve
