Just to give you some context, no one arranged anything special; we just fit into their daily life. As you will see there is a group of residents and staff who have a steady poker game. Since it was morning, we didn’t drink beer--but in the afternoon, they do. Bill (the one in the picture with the dog,) keeps the beer and wine in his fridge. And just so you know, I lost. Badly. In fact, one of the women residents who was helping me suggested that I not give up my day job. I agree. I especially like the fact that the staff and residents play together. And, they are nice enough to let the "girls" play too. One is REALLY good. We also got to make pizza on another neighborhood. We did this after their neighborhood morning meeting where they decided that was what they were in the mood for. It was very interesting. Everyone had a different role to play. No watching there! It was all hands on. You will see one picture in that neighborhood where I am looking under a couch. The neighborhood bunny was under there. The group decided unanimously to get one...so....they did! She (Angel) roams around all day. And, you will see, so do the dogs. The one in the pictures is named Job. When he came, Bill (yes, of poker playing fame) took an interest in him. And boy did Bill's health status and activity level change. Job follows his instruction and he takes full care of Job--including training and walking him. In fact, he walks Job around outside at least twice a day. Job lives in Bill’s room. They are both very happy. The cat snuck in the picture where the resident is playing piano--just part of the spontaneity of the day. You will also see some shots of a woman with some life-size decorations the residents are making to put outside for the holidays. She is in charge of the painting and as you can see, she is doing a super job. Food is around and available 24 hours a day. One resident wheeled by with a cone and I asked her if she was eating her ice cream before lunch. She said she likes dessert first. Good for her. |
