Defining Purpose, Meaning, & Growth

March 03, 2014

Meaning and growth are often the most difficult domains to visualize for people living with dementia. In this fifth webinar, we will discuss how to approach these very important domains, and how they can underlie some of the hardest-to-decipher forms of distress. Dr. Power will also highlight the concept of “self-fulfilling prophecies” and the hidden dangers they hold for people living with dementia.

In spite of growing awareness of the lower benefits and higher risks of antipsychotic drug use in people living with dementia, we cannot successfully reduce these medications until we find more effective approaches to care. According to Dr. Al Power, award-winning author of Dementia Beyond Drugs, the true key to sustained success is enhancing well-being.  In this 6-part webinar series, Dr. Power will describe how the Eden Alternative Domains of Well-Being provide a powerful framework for caring for people who live with dementia.  This new approach offers successful outcomes, where others, including other person-directed approaches, have fallen short.

Presenter: G. Allen Power, MD
