In this Milestone, the formal leaders take what they are learning and begin to involve and educate the rest of the organization. Plans for growth developed in Milestone 1 are implemented now with the engagement of many others throughout the home. Preparatory steps taken in Milestone 2 lay the foundation for future growth in Milestone 3.

How to use the Resource Guide

The Path to Mastery™: The Art of Creating a Caring Community contains four Milestones to mark each Eldercare organization's progress along the Eden Alternative journey. Each step within the Milestone marks an accomplishment.

 

The steps are separated according to whether they apply to personal, organizational or physical transformation. In addition, the steps within each Milestone are numbered for easy cross reference. The numbering codes follow this formula: "M2P1". The "M" stands for "Milestone" and the number following that indicates which Milestone the step belongs to. The next letter in the code represents which section the step is within. Specifically, "P" means Personal, "O" means Organizational and "Ph" means Physical transformation. The last number in the code represents the number for that step in that section of the Milestone.

For each of the Milestone steps in the Resource Guide, there is additional explanation provided to further define what each step means and examples of how it might be accomplished. After the explanation, there is a list of current tools and resources that are available through the Eden Alternative organization. Over time, that list will grow as more resources are created to assist Registered Homes in accomplishing each Milestone.

For additional non-Eden Alternative resources there is a bullet entitled "Books, Web sites and other resources" for some of the Milestone steps. The numbers following that title represent the resources as they are numbered and listed in the back of the Resource Guide on pages that carry that same title. Simply match up the number to reveal the book, Web site or other resources that may be of value on the Eden Alternative journey..

The last section of the Resource Guide contains spreadsheets that provide cross references for each Milestone. First is the cross referencing of each step to the Eden Principles and Well-Being domains. If you want to work on that step you will be able to see which Principles should be focused on. If you want to improve a Well-Being domain, you can see which steps will impact that domain.

The other spreadsheets provide a quick visual cross reference between each step and the various resources available through the Eden Alternative organization.
