Masonic Village at Lafayette Hill in Lafayette Hill, PA renewed their Eden Registry status on January 5, 2012. This home has worked hard to provide consistency in the relationships being formed in their neighborhoods. They provide independent, assisted and skilled support for about 200 Elders. There are three neighborhoods which meet and determine their own daily events. Meals are served restaurant-style with the Elders choosing their selection at mealtime. The menu selections are displayed as you enter the dining room. The Elders can eat in the main dining room, country kitchen or the bistro. They have a dessert tray that comes around as the meal is ending. The Elders are very active on the Food Committee helping to develop the menu selections. The country kitchen is a popular spot as it offers food availability throughout the day. It is also where the Elders gather with the five year olds who come in from the local school weekly. They have a Wii which is stimulating dancing and singing around the home. They also have a small bowling alley in the basement which generates some friendly competition between the Elder and employee care partners. Every care partner attends a full-day education on the Eden Alternative that includes role plays and interactive exercises to help teach the Principles. The result is that the care partners are empowered to provide maximum decision making authority to the Elders. They have an annual Autumn Ball. Everyone gets dressed up, gets their picture taken and enjoys a special meal and entertainment. They have been working on improving the end-of-life experience for the Elders, families and employee care partners. As one person commented, "We have a warm, friendly atmosphere. We consider everyone a care partner." This is a home where companionship takes the lead.
