Palmyra Healthcare Center in Palmyra, TN joined the Eden Registry on July 28, 2010. The Elders in this community live in five neighborhoods. Each neighborhood includes a variety of employees and the Elders that live there. Each neighborhood has chosen a mentor and a guide to assist them in making decisions, solving problems and planning their own events. The Elders stay connected with the larger community through letter writing to children at the local day care, visits from the local elementary school, and attending a nearby church. The Glory Lane neighborhood is home to people who are living with intellectual disabilities and they truly are a family. They are planning a vacation camping trip in their neighborhood including campfires, barbeques and a sleep over in the lounge. When a new Elder moves into the home they are welcomed with balloons and a care kit. The use of learning circles throughout the organization helps them build relationships, solve problems and dream up new ideas of where to go next on their Eden Alternative journey. The team at Palmyra Health Care Center has taken some strong foundational steps to assure their journey will be successful. We look forward to hearing about their next steps!
