Portage Pointe in Hancock, Michigan renewed their Eden Registry status on January 14, 2010. They have five homes where 60 Elders live. Meals are cooked in the homes and the menus include recipes from the Elders. Occasionally, local chefs come in to cook special meals. It is not unusual to arrive at mealtime and find the Elders, Elder Associates, families and others sharing a meal together. The Elder Associates have built close relationships with the Elders in the homes and have been cross-trained in a number of skills so they can respond to the Elder’s needs. The Elders themselves are an active part of home life helping in whatever way they choose to contribute to the flow of daily life. Each home has its own unique personality right down to the Elders’ rooms which are filled with their own possessions. Some Elders even bring in their own coffee mugs. Local photographers are contributing their photos to help bring an additional personal touch to each of the homes. Daily life is rich and abundant and definitely driven by the Elders’ interests at Portage Pointe.
