River Chase Village in Gautier, MS renewed their Eden Registry status on December6, 2011. They have three neighborhoods and five Families where the care partners and Elders build relationships, share stories and support one another daily. They strongly believe in a community approach to community issues. That includes daily decision making, taking on new projects, interviewing, hiring and other human resource functions. As a new employee, you will spend 90 days getting to know the people at River Chase Village and their routines. At the end of the 90 days, you will be invited to join a Family. Family membership is a rite of passage for all new employees. The formal leaders have taken on the role of coaches to the Families, organizing the external resources that each Family needs. Every Family is self-sufficient. They have the resources to meet the needs of the Elders and to plan special events and trips together. When it is mealtime, you have a choice of three eating spots in the Village. The menu includes hot-off-the grill items available all day, every day. The Elders have created a cookbook and their recipes are now a part of the daily menu. They have a day care that comes in and their own choir. The Families celebrate birthdays and holidays together. The Family appoints a Guardian who meets new Elders when they arrive and quickly become their buddy as they learn people's names and find their way around the building. This community believes that people need to know they are welcome to cross the threshold and become a part of the community. Their corporation continues to open up their annual retreat to anyone around the state interested in learning about the Eden Alternative from those living it every day. They firmly believe that when they reach out and help other organizations provide better eldercare they can touch so many more lives than just those living in their home. They are Worldmakers.
