Sunset Village in Sylvania, OH renewed their Eden Registry commitment on June 18, 2010. This community consists of six households, with shahbazim supporting the Elders daily lives, and independent apartments. In the households, the nurses have taken on the role of Care Coaches to support the shahbazim and Elders. Shahbazim are care partners with the Elders who have been cross-trained in a number of different skills needed to support each home. Each household prepares their own meals so it is not unusual to find ordering in pizza, another having a cookout and still another having a fancy meal. While breakfast is prepared as the Elders awaken naturally, lunch and dinner are usually eaten together by the Elders, shahbazim and any family members who are there. Relationships are strong as the Elders and shahbazim work together to fill daily life with meaning. They use value-based hiring techniques to welcome new employees that embrace their values and approach to daily life in the community. Potential new employees job shadow in the households before completing their second interview in order to see if this community will be a good fit for them. Children come into the home as junior volunteers and visitors. Several community groups hold their meetings at the home including two household associates and a Mary Kay group. As one care partner stated about what she sees as she looks around the community, "Basically, I see life!"
