The Canterbury at Cedar Grove Care and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Grove, NJ joined the Eden Registry on June 28, 2010. This home has been on their Eden Alternative journey for a little over a year now and their accomplishments are impressive. They are home to 180 Elders and the home has four stories, each with their own balcony and lounges. If you visit on Fridays, you will notice people wearing the same colors. This is not a uniform but rather a part of their Eden Friday celebrations which includes the unity of color and gatherings where the Eden Alternative Principles are taught in fun, interactive ways throughout the day. You might tune into CNN, the Canterbury News Network, to hear Elders announcing the events and happenings for the day. If it is your birthday, you will get breakfast, cooked to order, at your bedside so you can eat in bed! They have a choir of Elders and a theatrical club that each performs around the community. When an Elder passes, they hold a Celebration of Life event to share stories and honor the Elder's spirit. They have a Dancing with the Stars competition and hold talent and fashion shows which involve both the Elders and care partners. Each new Elder that moves in has a buddy (a care partner that works in the home) that spends time with them and checks in on them during the first week or so. This home has created a very active and energized environment which will lead to future successes as they continue to grow and evolve. Welcome to the Registry!
