Tideview Terrace in Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada joined the Eden Registry on June 29, 2010. They are the first home in Eastern Canada to join the Registry! This home has been making great strides forward in their Eden Alternative journey as they plan and prepare for the next phase of transformation: ten homes for the Elders down by the ocean beach. The switch from a focus on tasks to get done to one of nurturing relationships has warmed the hearts and souls of everyone connected with the home. It is not unusual to see care partners and Elders sharing cup of tea, getting to know more about each other or dancing and singing in the hallways. Everyone enjoys getting to know people's simple pleasures and making them happen. For those who like a coffee break now and then, coffee and donuts are brought in to be shared by Elders and care partners together every week or two. If you like a little entertainment, the activity room is converted into a lounge now and then complete with music, beverages and snacks. If you like a nice walk in the evening, there is someone there to go with you. One Elder commented on how much she enjoys having her quilting frame set-up and ready for her to come and do some quilting whenever she wants. Another Elder loves to cook and is a regular contributor to the newsletter where he shares his recipes.
