Solvang Friendship House in Solvang, CA joined the Eden Registry on December 9, 2010. This is home to 40 Elders and they live in five houses within a cul-de-sac. There is another house in their cul-de-sac that holds offices and one that is a community center. They share their cul-de-sac with an elementary school and other neighbors. Their homes have been a part of the larger community for 32 years and are well-known. They have some awesome volunteers that help with landscaping, repair work and lead some fun activities like a literary group and listening to records. Life in this small neighborhood of homes flows much like it does in our own neighborhoods. The Elders help determine what happens each day. If you arrive at mealtime, you will be invited to sit down and serve yourself along with the Elders. Meals are served home-style, just like we do in our own homes. Their auxiliary helps raise money to supplement the activities and events the neighbors decide to have. If you get a tour of the homes, be sure to enjoy the art wall with work created by the Elders. It is not unusual to see the children from the local schools stopping in to spend time with the Elders. This home is creating a life worth living for the Elders. We are anxious to see where they grow next!
