Delta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Visalia, CA renewed their Eden Registry status on February 18, 2011. They are home to 44 Elders and divided into three neighborhoods. Everyone enjoys coming together at mealtime to enjoy their select menus choices. In fact their approach to dining has won them two best practices awards in their state. They have changed from a traditional Resident Council to a new Community Council. The council meetings include updates from their Human Habitat Teams, all three neighborhoods and other issues going on in the community. Anyone that is interested can come to the Community Council meetings. They make important decisions that impact life in the home. The Delta Den is a common hangout for everyone along with the two entry areas. Everyone in the community enjoys spending time outdoors and having picnics. To help new Elders and families move in, within the first week there is a gathering where they learn about the Eden Alternative and get their questions about life in the home answered. The care partners are growing as decisions continue to be moved closer and closer to the Elders. There is a group of Elders that really enjoy attending the local high school plays. The home is located within walking distance of the downtown area with shopping and dining. All Elders are invited to complete a Get To Know You book so they can quickly become well-known in their community. As one Elder commented, "I couldn't ask for anything better than to be here."
