Hanford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hanford, CA renewed their Eden Registry status on December 22, 2011. They have room for 95 Elders and are divided into six neighborhoods. Everyone is a part of one of the neighborhoods. All the neighborhood teams meet monthly to discuss issues related to their daily routines. The neighborhoods are Country Life, Library Alley, Broadway, Seaside, Lighthouse Effect and Paradise. The neighborhoods enjoy some friendly competition. Ask them about their Halloween decorating contest when you visit the home. Their Community Council is really fantastic. The Community Council includes all care partners (families, Elders and employees). It has replaced the need for separate Family Council and Resident Council and other meetings because their agendas are combined together. The agenda includes committee and neighborhood updates, the next month's candlelight dinner, any problems, concerns, compliments, new business and old business. A sub-team of the Community Council is called the Leadership Committee and it includes two Elders, two family members and two employee care partners. Everyone in the community is invited to complete a Life Story form and share their story at their neighborhood meeting. The completed stories are kept in a binder in the neighborhood to help people get to know one another better. If you are new to the community, the welcoming committee of employees and Elders will be there to greet you. If you stop by on Friday afternoons you can enjoy their Happy Hour. This home has done well with building relationships and creating a friendly environment where everyone has a voice.
