Kings Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hanford, CA renewed their Eden Registry status on December 2, 2011. They have divided into five neighborhoods with consistency of relationships in each neighborhood. Each neighborhood has its own name, color scheme and is developing its own personality. New Elders are given a welcome kit and work with their family to fill out a Please Get to Know My Life Story book. New care partners have a mentor to help support and grow them as they begin work. They all love the family patio and children's play ground in the back yard. There is a pavilion for picnics and parties. They have plans in the future to construct a greenhouse and add raised garden beds, one for each neighborhood. The Elders raise tomatoes, chili peppers, eggplant and herbs. One Elder is constructing a compost planter, to develop a specific soil to fertilize other plants, and a succulent planter. Their Community Council is growing with lots of participation from employees, Elders and sometimes families. They talk about what happened the previous month and current events and they vote on the menu and entertainment for the monthly candlelight dinners. For those that come for therapy services, they hold graduation parties which include balloons, marching down the hall and everybody applauding. They believe in using learning circles to share information, generate new ideas and resolve conflict. This community enjoys fun and laughter everyday!
