Bent County Healthcare Center in Las Animas, CO renewed their Eden Registry status on October 12, 2011. They are home to 72 Elders receiving skilled and assisted support. They have an onsite child care center and provide adult day services too. They hold community gatherings once a month and bring all the care partners (employees, Elders and families) together to share ideas, learn and build relationships. All employee care partners buddy up with an Elder and they regularly spend time together doing things they both love. The Eden Leader of the Day is a manager that comes in on a weekend day to spend time helping out with daily life in the home. You will see them greeting visitors, helping with an activity or assisting at mealtimes. They have open dining times so the Elders can awaken naturally and they offer a choice menu where Elders can choose what they want to eat. The Elders enjoy the horses that come to visit regularly. The children from the day care center get involved and it is a great time for everyone. Recently they added a garden sanctuary in the front entrance area. They received grant funding and added a water feature, gazebo, winding walkway, raised flower beds, wind chimes, and bird feeders. It is much more like a garden now. The Elders and their care partners like to go and sit out there. A wedding took place in the new garden space this summer. They pride themselves on really listening to the Elders and making their wishes come true as best they can. With that goal, they will only continue to grow on their journey.
