The Bruce McCandless Colorado State Veterans Home in Florence, CO renewed their Eden Registry status on March 1, 2011. This is a home to about 80 Elders and they are divided into four neighborhoods. The neighborhood teams are growing strong in this community. Everyone that is a part of this community is a part of one of the neighborhoods, including Elders, employees and family members. The Elders really drive the daily life in the home. They plan events out for several months and inspire spontaneous events in their neighborhoods. The home just added a Sports Grill by converting a solarium area in the home. The grill is decorated with sports memorabilia from the local high school Huskies team. In the morning you can stop by for continental breakfast and in the afternoon join happy hour with wings and other snacks. During sporting events, they have tailgate parties in the Sports Grill. The Elders say the food is terrific and they can order from the menu or choose something else if they want in the dining room. In the Four Seasons neighborhood, the Elders all eat together and sometimes cook meals in their own kitchen. The families are a big part of daily life in the community whether they are helping plan or carry out events or cooking favorite family recipes for others to enjoy. The Elders have formed a welcoming committee that meets and spends time with new Elders when they move in. This is a home that is devoted to bringing meaning and joy to those that live there.
