Rowan Community in Denver, CO renewed their Eden Registry status on November 1, 2010. This is a lively community of empowered Elders. They are enjoying filling their daily life with meaning, for example through art classes, jewelry making, creating live music, choosing the menus for holiday meals, swimming, fund raising for community projects, the MS Society and the American Medical Directors Association. This is also an organization that is interested in sharing their story with the world through involvement in local conferences, coalitions and opening their home to others that want to experience the value the Eden Alternative can bring to lives. Rowan Community has even forged a relationship with a home in Germany. If you visit on Monday, you can sit in on the reading group that often has local authors coming in to talk about books they have written. The Elders have access to local resources to help them plan their own individual outings in the community. Another unique approach to life at Rowan Community is their laughter group lead by a certified laughter leader. Learning circles are used frequently to share ideas, solve problems and improve life together. Those who have chosen to be a hands-on care partner have the opportunity to attend a community college class to become certified as an Eldercare Specialist. Life is happening as all are growing in Rowan Community. Their example is helping others to grow as well.
