San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, CO renewed their Eden Registry status on November 1, 2011. This is a community of 65 Elders that make up four houses. The Elders have named their dining area "Come to the Table." Food is served restaurant style with a menu and a hostess there from 7am to 7pm daily. You can come and eat whenever you like. Elders awaken naturally according to their daily rhythm. You won't see the usual medication carts in the hallways because all the medications are in the Elders' rooms. If you prefer a different kind of snack, stop by Betty's Country Store. The grounds around the home are very inviting and the Elders enjoy gardening, especially Joe. His garden is a conversation point for everyone in the community. He grows peas, horse beans and onions and shares his bounty with others. They have created their own approach to supporting Elders through the end-of-life experience. The team that leads their effort includes family members of Elders who have lived there. They bring in speakers to learn about different cultural beliefs so they can honor each Elder individually through this passage. San Luis Care Center has made some strong strides in their journey and have important dreams about what they can yet become.
