No Time Like Now – Ask the Elders Why

Chris Perna, The Eden Alternative Blog

Every two years The Eden Alternative puts on an event. This is not just any event. It is an EVENT! We call it our international tic-tocconference, but it is an EVENT. Note the capitalization for emphasis.

For me, my very first Eden Alternative experience as CEO was our 2010 conference in Denver. I have been to a lot of conferences in my career, but this was different. It was an EVENT unlike any ordinary conference I had experienced over the years. I saw that the people were different, the program was different, the atmosphere was different, and the impact was different. I saw people growing, bonding, laughing, crying, transforming, and sharing like I had never seen before. We are fond of saying “It can be different.” Well, this was different.

It’s about time for another EVENT. We’ll be gathering in Little Rock in early May for our 8th International Conference. The experience will be as meaningful and impactful as past Eden Alternative conferences, but this one will be unique. Our theme It’s About Time  will be the key message driving the experience. We are at a critical point in the culture change journey.  We see this conference as an opportunity to challenge each other to step up and take person-directed care to the next level and beyond. We need to take action, and it needs to be now.  An important part of this is walking our talk and turning to the Elders in our lives to ask them why change is more critical than ever.

Elders Tell Us WhyWe’re giving you an opportunity to honor the voices of the Elders you serve through our “Wise Elders Tell Us Why” campaign.  I invite you to learn more about how you can submit simple smartphone videos of Elders sharing why they feel it’s about time for care that puts the person first. These video clips will be featured prior to and during the 2016 Conference.  We feel strongly that meaningful change needs the wisdom of Elders to drive and sustain it.  Stay tuned for other ways that you can involve Elders directly in the 2016 conference in January and beyond.  We hope you can help us engage Elders as valued change agents.  You’ll be glad you did.

Early registration is now open until February 5, 2016.

Do you have any Eden place in California?

I would also like to know of any Eden based communities in the Bay Area of California. Thanks!

Is there an Eden based community in the Nashville area?
