At Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio no two days are alike which allows for excitement and fulfillment each and everyday.  Last month was no exception, as Brethren Retirement Community turned into a Winter Wonderland for all to witness followed by a special visit from Santa as we hosted Breakfast with Santa for over 80 guests.

Brethren Retirement Community celebrated our First Annual Illumination Celebration on Friday, December 7, as part of the First Friday initiative in downtown Greenville.

Our main building, decorated with over 35 beautiful Christmas trees decorated by area businesses, friends, staff, residents, and families was dazzling with merriment and glad tidings as all gathered together to watch our outside display of over 30,000 lights around our large pond illuminate the night.  The weather was dreary and the night was dark, but all of that was quickly forgotten as the night sky filled with the amazing illumination of lights.  The highlight of the night had to be the hundreds of silhouettes in every window on the back side of our building.  The “ooos and ahhs” that filled the community made the event so worthwhile and that was only the start of the evening’s festivities. Inside our building, residents and guests were treated to cookies and hot chocolate and live entertainment. The BRC Choir was first on the list, followed by The Rose of Sharon Bell Choir and the Farmer Brown Barbershop Quartet who not only entertained the crowd but also lead a Sing-Along. It was great to see the spirit of the holidays come alive as residents, their families, friends and staff joined together in song during this wonderful celebration!  As the evening wound down, many knew that more excitement was to come the following morning as Santa made a special appearance.

Tis the season to be jolly!  What child doesn’t dream of having just a few precious moments with Santa Claus to whisper their special holiday wish in his ear?  Santa arrived early at Brethren Retirement Community this year to have breakfast with the children of Brethren Retirement Community employees on Saturday, December 8. As the morning began, dozens of energetic children were treated to a delicious pancake breakfast prepared by the Kings Men and Pancake Papas! Following breakfast, each child had time to spend with Santa and share their Wish List as their parents snapped their photo!  The room was filled with laughter, joy, and much fellowship.  The children enjoyed a very special gift, made especially by Brethren Retirement Community’s Housekeeping Department.  They made popsicle sled ornaments personalized with each child’s name to take home to hang on their Christmas Trees.

Thank you to all that donated lights, decorated trees, and attended our weekend events! Check out our Facebook page to see more photos and a video.
