Eden Alternative Facilities in the News: Elim Rehab and Care
Eden Alternative member Elim Rehab and Care Center in Fargo, N.D., broke ground this week on a major $7 million expansion to create 20 new rooms plus dining and activity spaces.
The new expansion and construction aren’t the only changes happening at Elim, reports The Forum of Fargo-Moorehead:
The facility will undergo major changes in the method of care used at Elim, an incentive dating back to 1998.
The method is called the Eden Alternative Model, and it highlights home-like activities and norms.
Dogs, cats or even children can be seen wandering the halls of Elim, something not usually seen in a traditional nursing home.
Greg Hanson, environmental services director, said incorporating the plants, animals and other elements makes the care center more like home.
“These are things you may see in your own home,” Hanson said. “It’s very important in getting away from that clinical, sterile, hospital-like atmosphere. It’s all part of making people feel like they’re still useful, that they’re still contributing.”
Congratulations to Elim for their investment in both the physical environment and in changing the culture of their facility.
