Eden in Oz Growing Strong

The Eden Alternative philosophy is strong and growing Down Under where Australia’s second Eden-in-Oz-registered home has just achieved recognition for all 10 Eden Alternative principles.

Wesley Mission Brisbane’s long term care community, Anam Cara in Bray Park, has been awarded full Eden in Oz & NZ registration, the first Eden home in Queensland and only the second nationwide.

“The Eden Alternative is about life, variety and spontaneity. You don’t get that in traditional homes. You get that from committing along a path to improving the quality of the living environment for residents and assisting them to live their lives. It’s also about improving the work environment for staff, creating a staff culture,” says Cathy Meyer, chair of Eden in Oz & NZ.

“All of these things Anam Cara has done thanks to great leadership and commitment along this journey. There is an ambience at Anam Cara, a manner of staff and the looks on people’s faces that you don’t see at other homes. Wesley Mission Brisbane’s own vision and values blends very easily with the Eden Alternative philosophy, and that’s why it works so well here.”
