The real work of creating home happens daily, close to the Elders, and is driven by the efforts of teams. In a person-directed care transformation process, one team we need is a Team of Champions. This is a group of formal and informal leaders, across the organization, who are deeply committed to keeping the heart of The Eden Alternative alive and fully integrated into daily life. Team members have heart, passion, vision, and intrinsic motivation. They are empowered by the formal leaders to hold everyone accountable to keep person-directed care at the heart of every choice, action, and interaction. How do you choose, form, grow, and renew, a Team of Champions, so that the journey begins on the right foot and stays strong against the pull to slip back into business as usual? This is the focus of the 8th semester of the Eden Alternative Academy. Bring your successes and challenges and join us for a six-week walk through the process of growing, and/or strengthening, your Team of Champions.

Denise Hyde, Pharm.D., was inspired to join the culture change movement in 1996, when she learned about Dr. Bill Thomas, The Eden Alternative, and the plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom. A registered pharmacist, she quickly realized that all of the medication recommendations in the world would not be sufficient to improve the lives of Elders. Her organization created their core team and launched their Eden Alternative journey, and it lasted for a while… until it crashed and burned. She learned a lot from that experience. Denise later served as a U.S. based Regional Coordinator for The Eden Alternative and supported core teams in organizations across six states. In 2009, she joined the Eden Alternative Home Office Team and, since then, has been learning from, and coaching, hundreds of core teams in implementing person-directed care across the US and Canada as Community Builder of The Eden Alternative.
Kristine Angevine, Certified Eden Educator and Path to Mastery Guide, joined The Eden Alternative in November of 2018. As Eden Registry Liaison, Kris works with over 100 Registry Member organizations, as they transform their institutional settings into a genuine, person-directed culture of care. Formerly from St. Johns Home and Jewish Senior Life in Rochester, NY, Kris brings over 15 years of expertise in creating small homes within organizations, with an emphasis on empowered work teams and person-directed care. During this time, she served in organizations supporting 475 Elders in skilled nursing, small homes with 10 Elders in residence, as well as assisted living and independent living communities. Kris has strong roots in the food and dining industry and applies this knowledge to what the dining experience looks like in a new culture. She has a knack for taking words and ideas and turning them into action and reality.
