Today, we’re launching a new Eden Alternative Facebook Page and I’m excited to invite the world to “LIKE” the Eden Alternative. You know what to do – simply click the Facebook “Follow” button on the left to show your support for the Eden Alternative or click here to visit the page.

We’ve prepared a special surprise to help launch the Eden Alternative Facebook Page — we’re holding a YouTube video contest featuring performances from the Eden Idol competition at the 2010 Eden International Conference in Denver posted exclusively on our new Facebook Page. Share your favorite videos with friends — the contestant with the most views by the end of the month wins a free DVD of the entire Eden Idol competition.

If you’re thinking about competing in the upcoming Eden’s Got Talent contest at the 2012 Eden International Conference in Michigan you better take a look at the stiff competition (not to mention some fierce judging) — cause baby, Eden’s Got Talent! Click here to signup.

In just 20 years the Eden Alternative community has grown from a single nursing home in upstate New York to an international movement with Eden homes scattered across the globe.

The larger our community grows the more important it becomes for us to take advantage of social networking tools such as Facebook to help us connect and strengthen the bonds that tie us together as a community and a culture change movement.

I have been actively encouraging the Eden community to join the conversation by reading and commenting on blog posts and sharing our stories on Facebook and other social networks.

The Eden Facebook Page will allow Eden to have its own identity on Facebook and to interact directly with members of our community, elders, family members and other like-minded organizations. We will be able to invite the world to show their support for the Eden Alternative by “Liking” our Page.

Please help us spread the word that It Can Be Different by inviting your friends and family to “Like” the Eden Alternative on Facebook.

I think these smaller homes for senior living is a fantastic idea. This gives the resident more of a feeling of being at home rather than an institution and it gives more personal interaction with a small group of people, allowing them to make friends more easily. Many people get depressed when they have to go to an assisted living facility or nursing home – this concept will allow the resident to be watched more closely for falls, such as when they aren’t using their walker. Having the kitchen open to the dining area would give more of the feeling of home too.

I hope the residents can personalize their rooms with needed items such as amplified phones and answering machines as necessary. It might be nice to have a small garden also that residents could putter around in if they are up to it, giving residents something to look forward to. Having something to look forward to is important to anyone’s life and many elderly people grew up having flower and vegetable gardens to tend when younger.
