Collaboration and growth in a new chapter.
Two Thriving Teams Under One Roof
Dementia Action Alliance joins The Eden Alternative as an outreach initiative! Together, we are furthering our mission to serve individuals living with dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and their care partners.
The Eden Alternative will continue to serve communities through membership, education, and consultation. Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) will maintain existing services and activities without interruption. Operating as an outreach mission of The Eden Alternative, DAA will share the Eden Board of Directors. The DAA Advisory Board will remain intact following the motto of, “Nothing about us, without us!” as all Advisory Board Members are living with dementia or some form of MCI.
This collaboration strengthens our commitment to guiding and growing both organizations, enabling us to support more people.
“We are so excited to be able to join The Eden Alternative. We are looking forward to enhancing our virtual programs and expanding our outreach to empower people living with dementia to build a purpose-driven life. Together we will continue DAA’s mission to create a better society in which individuals and families can live well with dementia. I am glad that Eden is going to be part of building my journey with dementia.”
-Laurie A. Scherrer, DAA Board Chair of Lived Experience DAA Programs Director
A Long History of Collaboration
The Eden Alternative and Dementia Action Alliance have collaborated for many years. In 2022, we co-created Raising The Bar: Creating A Better Society In Which To Live With Dementia for both Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing. This groundbreaking project was the first practice standards developed with input from individuals living with dementia.
We partnered on October 30, 2024 to offer a symposium for care partners at home and in eldercare settings as well as persons living with dementia or MCI. Each session had representation of persons living with dementia or MCI to provide the lived experience point of view.
Stay tuned for more collaborations that will elevate the culture of care.
Great Fit and Great Timing
Every 3 seconds, someone develops dementia, and by 2030, 78 million people are projected to be living with dementia. These statistics from Alzheimer’s Disease International underscore the urgent need to create better communities for those living with dementia or MCI. The timing of Dementia Action Alliance joining The Eden Alternative could not be more fitting.
Better Together
Everyone deserves a life worth living, but current medical practices often fall short. Together, The Eden Alternative and Dementia Action Alliance will shape the culture of care by connecting individuals living with dementia and MCI and their care partners with education, resources, and community to lead engaged lives.
By combining strengths, we will shift the collective culture away from practices that deprive individuals of choice and personhood, centering on authentic connection, autonomy, and freedom. Wherever you are in your journey, you are not alone.
The Eden Alternative is grateful for the opportunity to amplify the voice of Dementia Action Alliance, connecting with a broader audience and improving more lives through connection and education.
“DAA is absolutely thrilled to be joining with the Eden Alternative! Our two organizations have missions and values that are strongly aligned, and we share an optimistic vision for the future. DAA is looking forward to leveraging the incredible strengths of the Eden Alternative to help scale and grow our programs and outreach to reach even more people living with dementia, care partners, and dementia advocates. Along with our new partners at Eden, DAA is looking forward to helping far more people gain the support, knowledge, and resources they need to live vibrant lives with dementia!”
Craig Fowler, DAA Chairman of the Board
“We believe these two organizations complement each other and create a synergistic partnership. The membership tracks and practices, education and consultation of The Eden Alternative along with the support network of DAA will help both the care partner and each person living with dementia or MCI wherever they may work or live.”
Michelle Daniel, CEO of The Eden Alternative
