From The Road: Words Do Matter
It is the simple things that always stand out to me on the many travels I have been so fortunate to make. Here in South Africa my current favorite simple pleasure is hearing the words “It is my pleasure.”
When you find yourself in a different culture where so many things in your environment no longer makes sense, you find yourself reaching out to others for help. In the USA when I express my thanks, people respond by saying “You are welcome.” Not so in South Africa. Here a person will say “It is my pleasure.” This simple phase makes me smile.
What a perfect way to express the joy of offering services to others no matter how small or big the request may be. I can only imagine how this must make a person feel who is in need of receiving much care. It is my pleasure to help you, not my job or task but my pleasure, would make a huge difference to one’s spirit.
This simple phase, I believe, can help create an habitat where everyone feels of value.
